Gardners to celebrate 50th Anniversary

Gardner's celebrate 50th wedding anniversary -   Maurice and Pat Gardner of Garrison will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Saturday, June 4.  Pat Hauser and Maurice Gardner were married on June 4, 1966 in Vinton.

Geikens to celebrate 50th anniversary

Stan and Nancy (Tapper) Geiken were married June 3, 1966 at the Vinton Presbyterian Church.  They are the parents of Matthew (Shelly) Geiken, of Davenport, Melissa (Andrew) Chansley, of Gilbert, Arizona, and Doug (Becky) Mart of Cedar Rapids. Their grandchildren include Cassie, Cale, Talia and Cecelia.  Stan and Nancy will celebrate their anniversary later in the summer with their children and grandchildren on a trip to the Outer Banks.

Iowa State Fair 2016 Fine Arts Show Increases Submissions

One of Iowa's most prestigious art shows, the Iowa State Fair Fine Arts show, is calling all Iowa artists to submit entries for display at the 2016 Iowa State Fair. Premiums have increased in 2016 and artwork can now be submitted online. New this year, fine art entries will be submitted online for added convenience and to increase opportunities for people from all over the state.

Concordia University, Nebraska names 3 spring term honors students from Atkins

Concordia University, Nebraska named 247 students to its honors list for the spring 2016 semester. Students named to the honors list include: Morgan Eggert, a junior from Atkins, Iowa Matthew Gerhold, a sophomore from Atkins, Iowa Kenzie Woltemath, a senior from Atkins, Iowa The top 25 percent of all undergraduate students who complete at least 12 credit hours qualify for the honors list.

Addie Bjornsen Named to Culver-Stockton College's Honor Roll

Addie Bjornsen, 2017 Elementary Educ & Early Childhood major from Urbana, IA, 52345 was named to the Culver-Stockton College Honor Roll for work done during the spring 2016 semester. To be named to an honors list, Culver-Stockton College requires students to meet high academic standards. Honor Roll students have earned between a 3.

Artist Sought To Paint Mural Highlighting Conservation & Water Quality

Proposals must be received by July 1, 2016 Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey encourages Iowa artists to submit proposals to paint a mural highlighting conservation and water quality efforts in Iowa during the Iowa State Fair this year.  The mural will be part of an “Ag Park” space in Agricultural Building on the fairgrounds and serve as a visual representation of how conservation should be a focus in both urban and rural areas.

Thys named to Grand View President's List

Recognition for outstanding academic achievement has been given to Grand View University student Nicole Thys, who was named to the 2016 spring semester President's List.  The students are named to the President's List for earning a grade point average of 4.0 while carrying at least 12 hours of classes. Grand View University, with an enrollment of approximately 2,200 students, is an independent, liberal arts university affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

Caitlyn Conway elected to Student Senate

Central College student Caitlyn Conway of Blairstown has been elected for 2016-17 Student Senate. Founded in 1853, Central College of Pella, Iowa, is a private, residential four-year liberal arts college known for its academic rigor and strength in global experiential learning, STEM (science, technology, engineering and math), sustainability education, athletics success and tradition, and leadership and service.

Brian Voss Corded as Professional Educator

Brian Voss of Atkins, IA has been honored by the Iowa State University Educator Preparation Program for achieving the rank of a professional educator. Voss, who studied , was one of 191 Iowa State University graduates who were bestowed with academic cords of light blue, the traditional color worn by those in the field of education receiving bachelor's degrees, in a ceremony on Friday, May 6, 2016 in Stephen's Auditorium in Ames.
